Q: We are moving out of town/out of state, what do I need to do?
A: Before moving, stop by the front office and fill out a withdrawal sheet. If applicable, current grades/transcript can be printed for you. If other records from cumulative folder are needed, please make the request for these records ahead of time.
Q: How can I contact my child’s teachers and see his/her grades?
A: Go to our webpage and under the staff link you will see all the staff photos with a link to their email addresses. This is the most direct and efficient way to communicate with your child’s teachers. You may also want to sign up for access to the Parent Portal in FOCUS to see your child’s grades and attendance daily. For more information about the Parent Portal, please contact Charlotte Rogers.
Q: I want to schedule a parent teacher conference, who do I contact to set that up?
A: We ask that BEFORE requesting a conference you first contact the teacher(s) first with your concerns. If the problem still remains unresolved then contact Megan Warren in the front office to arrange a conference for you. Please be specific with whom you would like to attend this meeting and she will coordinate the best time for all parties to attend.
Q: I am concerned about my child’s ability to learn, can he/she be tested for special education?
A: All of our students are progress monitored throughout the year to measure learning gains and lack thereof. If your child becomes a concern, the MTSS team will notify you via a letter home or by scheduling a parent conference. We are required by the district and the state to try specific interventions over a period of time before a child may be eligible for testing. Please be patient with us as we work through the steps of this process. Above all, we want your input and support, and we will communicate with you every step of the way.
Q: I have concerns about my child being bullied?
A: Depending on the type of bullying situation, it will either be handled in guidance or by administration. We have a Zero-Tolerance for bullying at WAC and any incidents of bullying brought to our attention will be handled according to district policy.
Q: I have concerns about my child’s social/emotional well-being?
A: Our WAC comprehensive counseling program offers a variety of options for counseling. Our counselor, Catharine Taylor will facilitate short-term individual counseling or small group counseling with your child depending on the area of concern. We also have a COPE therapist on site at least once a week that is also available for more serious, long-term counseling issues.
